A very attractive and compact pair of French opera glasses, made circa 1920, in perfect translucent pale blue enamel over an engine-turned base, gilt-metal and with Mother o’ Pearl eye-pieces and focussing wheel. Unusually, they are signed: ‘Deraisme Fabt. (fabricant/maker) Paris. The original case is in very dark green leather, the outside in very good condition, with inside a rather spotty mirror, and somewhat deteriorated cream silk interior. One of the eye-piece lenses has a barely noticeable hair-line crack, not affecting the excellent visual properties. I never buy these without checking that they work! The glasses are 3 1/2 inches: 9.3 cms across at the widest, and 1 3/4 inches: 4.8 cms contracted.
