£245.00

An unusual pair of earstuds set with carved and reverse-painted horses jumping a fence, either hunting, show-jumping or racing. The crystals are first carved in reverse with the subject and then hand-painted aand backed with mother-o’-pearl. The technique was popular in the 1870s and were known as Essex crystals after William Essex who was supposed to have originated the technique. These date probably from around 1920 and the screw fittings are stamped Amco 20-12K gold-filled, so probably American.

They are 3/4 inch: 13mm diameter
